Rapid, Ultrasensitive Isolation of Pathogenic Candida Species Directly From Whole Human Blood

We report on the development of a culture-free pathogen capture system based on immunomagnetic capture of fungal pathogens directly from whole patient blood in less than 60 minutes. This pathogen capture system was successfully used to isolate clinically relevant concentrations of pathogenic Candida species spiked into healthy donor blood. Results from these spike-and-recovery studies demonstrate that this pathogen capture system can recover Candida at clinically relevant levels directly from human blood.
