Ganciclovir

Ganciclovir is a synthetic, acyclic purine nucleoside analogue of guanine. It is structurally and pharmacologically similar to acyclovir and is active against herpesviruses. [#] Compared to acyclovir, ganciclovir differs structurally such that it has substantially increased antiviral activity against cytomegalovirus (CMV) and less selectivity for viral DNA. [#]
