40,000 Pledges to Image Wisely

On Jan. 12, the Image Wisely® campaign received its 40,000th pledge. The majority of those pledges were made by individuals involved with medical imaging; however, associations/educational programs and imaging facilities are also included in the tally. Beginning in 2016, pledges to Image Wisely must be renewed annually; they will expire on Dec. 31 every year. Also, the requirements for facilities have been strengthened to make the pledge more meaningful. Effective immediately, only a single level is available for facilities that wish to participate. In order to take the Image Wisely pledge, facilities must participate in a dose index registry and be accredited by an organization that directly evaluates: radiation dose indices and compliance with accreditation pass/fail dose thresholds, clinical image quality, phantom image quality and personnel qualifications. Individual pledges and associations/educational program pledges made in 2016 or before will expire at the end of the year. Facilities that had pledged to all three levels of the old version of the pledge will not have to re-pledge until 2017. All other facilities must take the new pledge in order to retain their Image Wisely Honor Roll status. All individuals who pledged to Image Wisely for 2016 may print a dated certificate to document their pledge.
