Orthorexia: ED or OCD?

OCD has been linked to eating disorders in the research for years. Most recently, Orthorexia Nervosa, characterized by an obsession with eating only the healthiest and most nutritious foods, has been the topic of discussion for many professionals. People with orthorexia become so obsessive in their quest for eating a clean diet that they may develop compulsive behaviors around the ingredients of foods, often restricting their diets to only a few items. The results can be dangerous, as many become malnourished and some avoid eating for extended periods. Orthorexia has not been categorized as a specific eating disorder to date, and many professionals believe it falls on the OCD continuum.
