WHO Director-General addresses vaccine and immunization research forum

5 March 2014 -- In her keynote lecture, Dr Margaret Chan expresses her view that immunization programmes have matured to the point that they can now serve as models for delivering preventive interventions for multiple health problems. Arguing that immunization has been a pathfinder for universal health coverage, she draws five specific lessons that can assist countries in making their health systems more universally inclusive. As she notes, many innovations and strategies that have expanded access to vaccines also advance the aims of universal health coverage.
