Re: Physician Suicide And Physician Health Programs
Physicians’ Health Programs (PHPs) [1], are a successful approach for managing substance use disorders in physicians. PHPs have evolved over decades and are often led by physicians who themselves are recovering. The model, which DuPont has labelled a new paradigm [2,3], warrants careful study as it holds promise for many who struggle with substance disorders. This approach links high quality, recovery-oriented, intensive treatment followed by long-term (5-years) monitoring and support with the abstinence standard.
