This study reviewed the occurrence of late hematoma in five patients who received smooth, round silicone gel implants in a single-surgeon practice over a 30-year period. All patients presented with progressive enlargement of the involved breast, which appeared to result from multiple and recurrent bouts of bleeding rather than from an isolated event. Histological analysis of capsules provided insight into the pathogenesis of this rare phenomenon. Reconstruction of post-traumatic full-thickness defects of the upper one-third of the auricleThe unique three-dimensional architecture of the auricle poses significant challenges when reconstruction of defects or traumatic injuries are necessary. The choice of repair method, however, depends on the amount of tissue loss and the location of the defect. Although several techniques have been investigated, comprehensive reports in the contemporary literature are scarce. This prospective study involved 14 subjects who experienced subtotal loss of the upper one-third of the auricle, all of whom underwent conchal cartilage graft from the contralateral auricle. The authors report the subjective evaluations of the surgical outcomes and briefly discuss the advantages and disadvantages various reconstructive techniques for auricular defects.
