This study aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of such a model, and its effectiveness as part of a comprehensive teaching paradigm. Buffered lidocaine and bupivacaine mixture - the ideal local anesthetic solution?Mitigating the pain associated with local injections of anesthetic before surgical procedures is one of several primary goals of the plastic surgeon. Although there is no ideal local anesthetic solution for all applications, the combination of lidocaine, bupivacaine and epinephrine has demonstrated excellent versatility in plastic surgery. However, the acidic nature of commercially available lidocaine solutions causes pain on injection; accordingly, buffering lidocaine solutions to neutral pH has been advocated for many years. This study investigated the clinical properties of buffered anesthetic solutions, both plain and combined with epinephrine. Accuracy of medical models made by consumer-grade fused deposition modelling printersAvailability, affordability and lack of advanced knowledge needed to operate fused deposition modelling printers has facilitated the emergence of additive manufacturing technology in medical modelling. Although previous, more costly iterations of this technology, such as selective laser sintering, have demonstrated adequate precision, there are no studies evaluating the accuracy of less costly, consumer-grade three-dimensional printers. The aim of this study was to assess whether these printers represent a viable method for surgeons to pr...
