Volatile sulfur compounds effects on oral health

Although common in animals, oral malodor has not been studied as extensively in domestic animals as in humans. Breath malodor may originate from the mouth or an extra oral source, such as the gastrointestinal or respiratory systems, or even systemic disease. Oral malodor is a result of microbial metabolism of exogenous and endogenous proteinaceous substrates leading to the production of compounds such as indole, skatole, tyramine, cadaverine, puterescine, mercaptans, and sulphides.
