Resolutions – no major changes

Each year many Americans make New Year’s Resolutions.  Few keep them.  Each January the gyms get much more crowded, and the number of new faces astounds the regulars. Over the year’s I have made resolutions, and often failed.  Memorial Day weekend 2013, I started a weight loss project.  I wrote these words 7 weeks after starting: One day a couple of months ago, I realized that I was working on weight loss.  No resolutions, no epiphanies, no health scares stimulated my project.  I just slowly decided that I would feel better if I decreased my weight.  I am losing 1-2 pounds per week, and hope to continue until I decide to stop.  My success thus far is not just in pounds, but better measured by moving my belt one notch, and approaching the second notch.  My cardiovascular fitness has improved dramatically, and several people, including my wife, have commented positively on my success thus far. So how does one lose weight.  What is the magic formula?  Sorry, I have no magic formula. As the Alabama Football Coach would tell you, success occurs when you attend to the process.  Weight is simple.  To decrease weight one must either burn more calories per day or consume fewer calories each day, or do a bit of each.  I am trying to work on both sides. Exercise alone does not lead to weight loss.  But exercise can make weight loss easier if combined with modest diet adjustments.
