Stool antibiogram as an antibiotic therapy determinant in hematological malignancy patients

Publication date: Available online 5 December 2015 Source:Journal of Patient Safety & Infection Control Author(s): Purabi Barman, Shimpi Chopra, Latika Sharma, Dharma Choudhary Transplant patients in hematological malignancies are prone to infections, as they are neutropenic during their treatment period. These patients also develop mucositis which lead to blood stream infections, at times arising from their endogenous gut flora. With rising antibiotic resistance in hospital setup as well as in the community, screening gut flora for Carbapenem resistance may help in antibiotic management of these patients. We detected 54.09% Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae in stool samples in this group of patients.
