In conclusion, malignant hypertension is not a 'vanishing disease', with a relatively stable number of cases per year, but it does have a significantly improved prognosis and survival rates due to earlier detection, stricter blood pressure control, lower BP targets, better choice of antihypertensive drugs and availability of hemodialysis and renal transplantation.
