Publication date: December 2015 Source:European Research in Telemedicine / La Recherche Européenne en Télémédecine, Volume 4, Issue 4 Author(s): Catarina Eloy The telepathology model in the continental part of Portugal started in 2013 and is coordinated by Ipatimup – a research center with a diagnostic pathology department connected to the University of Porto. This project is completely new in our country and consists of the realization of routine pathology diagnosis, both in macroscopy and microscopy (whole slide scanning) fields. This model is followed-up by a strict quality control performed by specifically trained pathologists at Ipatimup and allowed the maintenance of the costs with an increased quality of the reports and a decrease in the turnaround time.
