Letter from the Editor: Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA, also referred to as the Affordable Care Act, or ObamaCare) was signed into law on March 23, 2010. It was enacted to increase the quality and affordability of health insurance, lower the uninsured rate, and reduce the costs of healthcare for individuals and the government. The creation of state and federal health insurance marketplaces has been a dominant feature of the PPACA, even though only a small percentage of people obtain health insurance through the marketplace.
