Thymic choristoma of the middle ear presenting as a red, tympanic mass

Thymic choristoma is a very rare disease that can arise along the anatomical route through which the thymus, during development, migrates towards the upper mediastinum. Most thymic choristomas are easily mistaken for lymphadenitis or a lymph hemangioma prior to surgery and are very difficult to diagnose clinically.[1] Thymic choristoma arising in the middle ear is a very rare case which has yet to be reported. We have recently experienced a case wherein a thymic choristoma was discovered in the middle ear of a 4-year-old boy, and we report this case and review the literature below.
