ASCO 2015 Update on Gastrointestinal Cancer: Checkpoint Inhibition, Multimodality Strategies and Secondary Prevention

Each spring, thousands of oncology professionals gather in Chicago for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting. This years’ meeting may be most remembered for the presentation of multiple striking abstracts employing a new class of drug treatments that seek to re-awaken the immune system’s response to cancer. Indeed, several of the studies presented on immune checkpoint inhibitors will be reviewed here, as they are potential new strategies for the treatment of various gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies.
