Perspective: ‘Which way is vasculitis research heading?’

Publication date: Available online 26 September 2015 Source:Indian Journal of Rheumatology Author(s): Paul Bacon Clinical research is driving the improved prognosis for patients with systemic vasculitis. The major progress has been in ANCA-related vasculitis, where the need now is to incorporate the lessons from limited term controlled trials into evidence-based treat-to-target regimes related to individual responses over a prolonged period. This perspective examines the research aimed to establish the biomarkers needed for such an approach to succeed. It also looks at the more basic research needed to establish the aetio-pathogenesis of other major forms of vasculitis so that rational treatments can be devised for them too.
