Foreword

The life span of people has been increasing. As a result, there are more individuals who are “older”. In these individuals, there is an increased prevalence of calcific aortic stenosis (AS) which have a variety of associated cardiac and non-cardiac disorders which may require non-cardiac surgery. At the same time, because of advances in the management of surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR), there is a common clinical decision making issue. The management of such patients who have AS of variable severity both with regard to AS and the need for non-cardiac surgery is critical.
