Stem cell markers nestin and CD133 are markers of aggressive behavior in astrocytic tumors: an immunohistochemical study in an Egyptian population

Conclusion: Nestin and CD133 are markers of aggressive behavior of astrocytomas in Egyptian patients. This may be used as an ancillary method for grading and/or directing the therapeutic decision. The high expression in these two cancer stem cell markers in aggressive astrocytomas supports the role of glioma stem cells in the aggressiveness of astrocytomas.
