WHO Director-General celebrates polio-free India

12 February 2014 -- In her address at an event celebrating India’s triumph over polio, Dr Margaret Chan commended the country for showing the world that there is no such thing as impossible. She pointed out the many unique challenges that made sceptics believe that India would never be polio-free. As she noted, the doubters missed one decisive factor: the power of India’s determination to go from the world’s heaviest burden of polio cases to zero.
