Predictive Biomarkers of Preterm Delivery in Women with Ongoing IVF Pregnancies

Currently, 1.5% of infants in the United States are born following in vitro fertilization (IVF) and embryo transfer (Martin et al., 2012). This percentage is expected to increase substantially in the future, mainly as a result of increased age at the time of first attempted conception. Although IVF has succeeded in alleviating many factors contributing to a couple's infertility, IVF pregnancies are more predisposed to adverse outcomes than are spontaneous conceptions. This increased risk is partially due to the elevated rate of multiple pregnancies.
