Deletion of Gαq in the telencephalon alters specific neurobehavioral outcomes

This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. Deletion of Gαq selectively from the telencephalon produced a deficit in spatial memory and enhanced sensitivity to cocaine‐induced locomotion. These phenotypes differ from previous characterizations of the global Gαq knockout, which produces profound hypoactivity, diminished cocaine responsiveness, and growth retardation. Cortical Gαq signaling may be protective against psychostimulant drugs.
