Foreword

Brain metastases are a potentially devastating complication of malignancy, while even small volume disease burden from metastases can be functionally incapacitating. Prior to the CT era, patients typically presented with debilitating clinical manifestations of brain metastases and succumbed rapidly to disease. In today’s era, the patient population with brain metastases is far more diverse in symptoms and prognosis given early detection by advanced imaging modalities. More effective systemic therapies have led to longer survival in many diseases.
